Origin story
Gas Town became $GAS
An anonymous Bags launcher pointed royalties at Yegge’s social account. A LinkedIn comment told him Huntley had already cashed $56k. He claimed, wrote the creator-economy essay, then told Crypto Twitter he had to go back to the code.
This is the conversion script still used on marks: named OSS celebrity + “free money waiting” + a peer who already claimed. It also produced the highest-status press (Matt Levine) and the first moral critique (Sean Goedecke).
On the watch queue. Still a log entry — the binder does not prune.
Reported take: $75k on first claim; later cited ~$300k
